Today I showed my experiment. An experiment is a kind of magic trick. Like if you put one teaspoon of baking soda and vinegar into a Gladbag it will pop! My sister helped me to put Baking Soda and Vinegar into a bag and then we sealed the bag shut. The vinegar and baking soda make a reaction that makes them fizz. It started filling the bag with air and the bag got fatter and fatter. It was great. In the end the bag got too full of air and it popped. It was an exciting experiment!

Leticia's Vinegar and Baking Soda Volcano
On an exciting day, when my class was learning all about experiments, my teacher (Miss Williams) let all of us bring an experiment. I brought my experiment two days ago. It was a volcano (but not a real one). It is one that is made of vinegar and baking soda. This is how you make it:

- An egg shell with a small hole on top
- Vinegar
- Baking Soda
Instructions:
- Put 3 teaspoons of baking soda into the egg shell.
- Pour the vinegar into the egg shell.
- Stand back and watch what happens!
The vinegar and the baking soda make a reaction that creates bubbles and a thick foam comes erupting out of the eggshell. It is a cool experiment! All of the people in my class enjoyed watching the volcano erupting.
Floating Cardboard by Dhruv
On Tuesday it was my experiment day. My experiment was making cardboard float!
What You Need:

- A cup full of water (full to the very top!)
- Cardboard.
Instructions:
- Fill the cup with water
- Put the cardboard on top of the cup of water
- Count to 10
- Turn the cup upside down, still holding the cardboard
- Count to 10 again
- Let go of the carboard
- The cardboard will stick to the cup and will float under the cup, even though nothing is holding it there!
Ryan's Paper Bridge
On Tuesday I did my experiment. Each child had to do an experiment. I made a paper bridge. To make a paper bridge you need two cups, a glue stick and paper. First you put the paper on the 2 cups, and then put the glue on the paper. It falls because the paper is not strong enough to hold a glue stick. But if you fold it back and forth like a fan and then put the glue on the paper it does not fall!! :p Folding the paper makes it much stronger and you can balance the glue stick on it!

Volcano in a balloon by Max
On Tuesday we were doing experiments. My one was a volcano in a balloon. First I put 3 teaspoons of baking soda in a bottle then I tipped vinegar in the bottle. This made the vinegar bubble and turn to foam. Then I put the balloon on top of the bottle and it filled up with foam! Next Miss Williams tied the balloon up. After, we had a vinegar balloon! It was soft and squelchy - like a stress ball!
I had fun doing a volcano in a balloon! I was happy that no one else did the same experiment as me. Now some people want to try it at home! Everyone got to hold it and squeeze it. I loved watching Chris' Dry Ice Experiment too. It was awesome! :)
Floating egg by Victoria
My experiment was called The Floating Egg. Eggs are usually heavy and sink to the bottom of the cup of water. If you do this experiment, the egg will float on the water instead!
Put water halfway in a glass.Then put 2 table spoons of salt. After, mix it with a spoon. Finally put the egg in - then it floats! I was proud of my self. Then we talked why the egg floats.The egg floats because salt makes the egg float because of something called buoyancy Then I had to pack it up. I put the egg in a plastic bag. Then I put the salty water down the drain.
It was a fun experiment!
Morgan's Floating Orange
Hi! We are doing experiments in Room 21. My experiment was a floating and sinking orange. This is how you do the experiment. You need a container of water. Then you put an orange into the water. It floats!
Then peel the orange. Put it back in the water and this time it sinks! The skin on it makes it float. Did you know that?

Dance Festival
The 2012 Dance Festival was a huge success, with 35 Sunnyhills Year 5 and 6 students taking part. It has taken me a while to upload these videos (sorry about that!), but here they are! Thanks to the Knofflock girls for the great filming :).

Our Collages.
For the last few Fridays, we have been making beautiful collages with our Room 6 buddy class. We read a book called 'Window' by Jeannie Baker. All of the pictures in the book are made from collage. Here is one of our favourites:
We worked with our buddy to draw a draft of what we might see out of our window. Next, we painted the background of our picture (just the sky and ground, no details). While they were drying, we had a look through all of the materials that people had brought in from home. There were some very cool things to choose from!

Our buddies helped us glue things on to our picture and we helped our buddy to glue theirs. We mainly used PVA Glue, but if something was too heavy, we could use the hot glue guns.
Some of our favourite things were jumping on Paua shells to break them into small pieces, using sand to make our beaches look realistic, and finding treasures in the box of materials. We had fabric and paper with pretty patterns, cotton wool, towels, pebbles, feathers, bark, dried leaves, foam shapes, glitter and so much more!

Room 21's Calendars
Sunnyhills School is making school calendars for a fundraiser. In Room 21, we made stained glass windows. First, we learnt all about shades of colours and how to make them with paint. We were amazed by how many shades of one colour you can make by adding white, black or other colours.
First, we drew a small circle on our page. This is where the sun is hitting the stained glass. Next, we drew lines from the circle out to the edge of the page. This is to show us how the sun's rays would hit the window. Next, we drew a simple picture over the top of our lines. We needed to keep it simple, with big shapes, because painting tiny shapes is too hard.

When our draft was finished, we carefully drew our design onto our calendar and then it was time to paint! We had such a great time painting - even though it was VERY messy! Luckily we had two parent helpers and a learning assistant to help us. We worked super hard and got all of the painting finished in one day.
